Massage

Accents On Health uses massage only as a tool to improve healing tissues- even though it may be very enjoyable too. The massage techniques we use incorporate Corrective Tissue Biomechanics which enhances recovery of injured tissues. Please read more below.

Corrective Tissue Biomechanics

A system of recognizing and manually...

correcting restrictions to motion to the moveable tissues of the body by removing the negative effects of scar tissues, adhesions, and contractures.

releasing the negative effects on the nervous system caused by soft tissue injury and/or dysfunction including impingement, adhesive processes, and aberrant neurological reflex arcs.

mobilizing trapped inflammatory exudate - either acute or chronic - anywhere in the soft tissue of the body.

Put more simply, Corrective Tissue Biomechanics uses motion in the healing of soft tissues such as joints or muscles. It is proven to repair damaged tissue to its full range of motion. The massage based treatment allows each joint and soft tissue structure its full range of motion. It lengthens all sides equally in the full range of motion. This promotes balanced muscle pull, ensuring that each motion is initiated from and stabilized by the core.

How Corrective Tissue Biomechanics Massage Works

Fibrotic repair tissue after traditional (non-motion) therapy

Fibrotic repair tissue after early persistent controlled mobilization therapy

As soon as tissues are injured, they begin to heal. The repair tissue, however, is different than the original undamaged tissues. This repair called scar tissue, fibrous tissue, or granulation tissue is weaker than before the injury, less elastic and more sensitive.

Recent research states the early and persistent controlled mobilization of the injured tissue will:

  • Give the repair tissue more strength.
  • Create better alignment of the scar fibers so that the repair tissue has better elasticity and is therefore less stiff.
  • Develop better neurology (nerves) at the injury site so that the repair tissues are not as sore and sensitive to future stresses and strains.
